As you can see at the top of this website, I developed a deep fascination for Greek mythology many years ago. I began by meticulously creating a family tree of the gods, only to realize that clarity was lost after just the second generation. Creating a graphic novel that explores the genealogy of the Greek gods in a historically accurate yet engaging way developed into a passion project for me. The Origins of the Greek Pantheon combines a structured chronology with visual and narrative elements that clarify the often contradictory relationships between the deities, making mythology more accessible to readers.
A framing narrative that is particularly close to my heart forms the core of the story: The young Plato meets Socrates for the first time in the Agora. Fascinated by each other, they begin a conversation. Socrates, realizing Plato’s knowledge of mythology is limited, starts recounting the origins of the gods. As they walk through the streets of Athens, each chapter introduces a new deity, gradually building a clear timeline of Greek mythology.
The book is designed to educate through entertainment, making it an ideal introduction to Greek mythology for young readers, students, and adults. It may appeal to individuals, schools, universities, and museum visitors - anyone eager to explore these timeless myths. So far, 63 pages have already been completed, and the graphic novel is finished. A second volume is also being considered.
For a 2020 application in France, some pages were revised, which is why the text is in French. The original, however, is in German. If you're interested, feel free to reach out for a preview!
"Our destiny is not frightening because it is unreal; it is frightening because it is irreversible and unyielding. Time is a river that carries me away, but I am the river; it is a tiger that devours me, but I am the tiger; it is a fire that consumes me, but I am the fire."
