Zeitgefühl

Zeitgefühl

Inspired by my thesis project Zeitgefühl, a virtual reality experience, Sense of Time – An immersive and audiovisual experience explores the concept of time through immersion and perception. What is time? How do we experience it? These questions shaped the approach, blending philosophical and scientific perspectives with artistic interpretation. The show delves into the nature of time as an individual and deeply personal perception, contrasting it with a scientific viewpoint. Themes of origin, becoming, decay, and infinity emerge - what happens when time feels endless?

This fulldome show invites the audience into a dreamlike space, sparking imagination and contemplation. Immersive visuals and an evocative electronic soundtrack create an experience that is both meditative and captivating. It offers a moment of detachment from everyday life, drawing viewers into a world that encourages reflection on time, perception, and reality.

The visuals are accompanied by the electronic soundscapes of Bochum-based artist dieterkong (Ralf Eichenauer), a composer, arranger, keyboardist, percussionist, and singer known for his experimental approach to electronic music. His original composition blends electronic improvisation with structured composition, forming a soundtrack that seamlessly supports and enhances the imagery - an integral part of the overall experience.

The premiere took place at the Bochum Planetarium, with Lokalzeit Ruhr covering the preparations (link available in the short info section, minute 09:12). The program has a total runtime of approximately 60 minutes. The on-site photography was done by Kimberly Jüschke.

quotation

"Our destiny is not frightening because it is unreal; it is frightening because it is irreversible and unyielding. Time is a river that carries me away, but I am the river; it is a tiger that devours me, but I am the tiger; it is a fire that consumes me, but I am the fire."

(Jorge Luis Borges, 1952)
