Carl Orff’s Music Theater Work Die Kluge tells the story of a king and a clever woman. To celebrate the premiere of the opera on March 13, 2016, the Opera Cologne’s Theater and School department launched a competition: participants were challenged to depict the opera’s storyline as a comic. The choice of drawing style, colors, and materials was left entirely up to the artists. I created the 1st place winning comic.
An exhibition featuring the ten most outstanding works was displayed at the StaatenHaus from the premiere onward. The Orff Center in Munich was so impressed by the comics that they hosted the exhibition for several weeks afterward.
My work was also published in the program booklet for Brigitta Gillessen’s production and was available as a poster.
"Our destiny is not frightening because it is unreal; it is frightening because it is irreversible and unyielding. Time is a river that carries me away, but I am the river; it is a tiger that devours me, but I am the tiger; it is a fire that consumes me, but I am the fire."
